Liquid Eye Water Housing
Aug 8th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
About 3 months ago I ordered a custom made water housing for my Nikon D700. It’s been a long wait, but I got it…finally…and I feel relieved. Somehow it got lost in the post and we (the manufacturer and I) had given up on it being found again. The day before the 2nd housing was due to get mailed, the original waterhousing turned up!
I just wanted to say a big thank you to Philipe Chevodian from Liquid Eye for all his support and great service from begining to end. Even though the package got lost (beyond his control) and was dilivered a few months later, it was so well packaged that even though it arrived totally battered, there was not as much as a scratch on the housing. I Still need to submit it to some testing before I take my D700 for a splash. Just been too busy. Probably a week or two before I get a chance to test it properly…so watch this space.

DIY Beauty Dish Revealed
Aug 7th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Good News: Beauty dish complete!
Bad News: Dropped and broke my Pocket Wizard Transceiver II testing it!! Totally gutted!!!
After months research and careful planning, I FINALLY reveal my first DIY beauty dish. If I do say so myself I am pretty pleased with the first result. I haven’t performed much testing and have taken a few pictures (no special lighting) just using my SB-900. I’ll probably reshoot and repost with decent pictures when I have more time.

Lorraine and Cathal
Jul 5th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Lorraine and Cathal had a beautiful wedding on a beautiful day. Driving to Co. Rosscommon we encountered terribly heavy rain and thought we would be in for a challenging day. As soon as we arrived the clouds opened and gave way to beautiful blue skies – a perfect day for a wonderful wedding and beautiful pictures.
Congratulations! May you have a wonderful future together!

Jane and Marius – After Wedding Party
Jul 4th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Oh what an amazing couple!!! We just wished we could also have photographed them on their wedding day in South Africa. Fortunately they asked us to photograph their wedding party for friends and family who couldn’t make it to the wedding in South Africa. You can see more of their actual wedding pictures taken by a great photographer, Jani Breedt.
We’ll be photographing Claire’s (Jane’s sister) wedding in October and are really looking forward to working with them.

Wounds in Rocksound Magazine (slightly belated)
May 11th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Wounds: 4 Piece band from Dublin, fast moving up in the ranks! I won’t even try to describe their raw, gungy punk style sound – because it’s not just about the music – it’s the entire experience!!! I have had the fortune of doing a few shoots with them over the past few months. This picture taken from the “Black Gunk” shoot I did with them was published in Rocksound Magazine last month. Though things got pretty messy during the shoot, it was fun and if I do say so myself, I thought the results were kinda impressive. These guys are always fun to work with, thought if you don’t keep a close eye on them they tend to get very “Rock n Roll” and by the look of things, it’s in their nature to wanna shred anything that stands in their way – no prisoners taken…a bit like their approach to music/gigs.
The shot above is the original sent to the magazine. Click here to see more »

Self
May 10th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
It’s been a while since I have done a self portrait, so today seemed a good day to do one again – just for the sake of doing one. No in-depth meaning to this picture, no special lighting effects, no tricks – just a self portrait!
Strobist info:
1 x softbox camera left (subject right)
1 x open head full power behind subject
various reflectors

Things are looking up…oh wait, those things are seals :)
May 9th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Ah..the joys of spring and sunshine. These brighter days and sunny spells sure are appreciated in Ireland. I remember the days of living in South Africa when we’d talk about wet or rainy spells. Here in Ireland, even the weather reports “sunny spells”

Christian and Family
May 5th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
On the way home from work today I bumped into my good friend Christian and his family, which reminded me that I never posted any of the pictures we took of them. So here a few months down the line, finally a sample from the shoot.
They told me that they were very happy with the results and have one of the pictures blown up and hanging on the wall in their living room! Of course they were happy with the results – how could you not be with such a beautiful family?

The Front Man
May 4th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
I just remembered about this picture last night when I was telling somebody about the Hi ISO capabilities of the Nikon D700. For me this picture is a turning point in my way of thinking about digital photography. This is the image that put my faith in the HI ISO capabilities of the current generation Niikon FX cameras (D700, D3 D3s D3X). This is my bench mark image!
Shot at ISO 4000, F/2.8 at 1/60 sec. RAW converted to JPG in Capture NX2 – no edits! I don’t think anybody can argue the quality when previously I would not consider shooting over ISO 800 on previous generation cameras.
And now we even have the D3s … what will come next???

Eye Spy
Apr 27th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
I (eye) have been pretty busy lately updating and reorgansing my webistes, so have really neglected my blog and uploading any photography. FINALLY, here is a picture I took a few weeks ago while we out and about looking for surf – which we never found. Instead we found some beautiful horses which we were fortunate enough to spend a few minutes photographing and experiencing their true beauty! What magnificent creatures they are!
I’ll dedicate this picture my my sister who just turned 30 today! Happy birthday, Charlene! May it be a year filled with blessing and good adventures…and may it only be the start of a wonderful life ahead and many more birthdays to come!

Surfing IRL
Apr 7th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
It has been a good while since I’ve had a good surf. In fact since moving to Ireland (9 years ago) I’ve probably only had about 2 or 3 good sessions. Admittedly this has got a lot to do with me being very busy with work and also living about 3 hours drive from closest decent surf spots, which never seem to work on the weekends.
Well this easter weekend I finally got some good surf…not just good, but great! Maybe it felt extra amazing because I have been out of the water for so long – and I FINALLY got a chance to use my “new” board for the 2nd time which is almost a year old already.
A few weeks back I decided to combine 2 of my passions – surfing/waves/the ocean and photography. So this weekend I managed to test my new Sigma 150-500mm lens. I must say – considering it’s not the most expensive lens on the market, I was quite pleased with the results. It’s by far not the best telephoto lens, but I just can’t justify spending €8000 on a lens at this stage….besides, I am budgeting for my water-housing. Hopefully soon…fingers crossed!!!
Now I am looking forward to the next surf session. My only dilemma is whether I want to be taking the photos or riding the waves…? Decisions… Decisions….
(ps: credit to Barbara for taking the pictures of me)

Spring is in the air! (at last)
Mar 16th, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
This past weekend we took a drive to Tollymore Forest Park in the hope of a little bit of sun and some time out of the house after what has been a LONG dreary winter. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as we had hoped for, but we did see many signs of spring in the air – such as these lambs! The cutest little balls of wool bouncing around as carefree as we wish we could be…until we got too close, that is! Amazing how the mothers call them and they go running after her.
This was also a good oppertunity to test my new Sigma 150-500mm lens, and I must say I am pretty impressed. Definitely a good buy, though not cheap, but value for money! I can’t wait to get it to the ocean for some surf snaps!
But for now I am just happy that spring is on the way and soon it will be time for BBQs and even a little bit of sunshine if we’re lucky! Bring on the summer!

Wound Up Tight – AU Magazine
Mar 3rd, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Grab your free copy of AU Magazine at Tower Records (and various other outlets around Dublin) and turn to page 13 for an interview with the “Wounds Band” (photography by Anthony Peyper, yes that’s me) – titled: “Wound up Tight, Dublin Gutter-Punks Plan their Assault”.
Just finished another shoot with them this evening for an interview with Rocksound Magazine. Turned out pretty well. Once the pictures have been featured in the magazine I’ll post them online.
If you ever get a chance to see this band I highly recommend it! A very dynamic live gig, but don’t get too close if you don’t want to be swallowed up in the chaos and trail of disaster. For some it might be better to watch from a distance – not for the faint hearted or fragile!!! I always enjoy photographing this band – on and off the stage!

Ditch Day
Mar 2nd, 2010 by Anthony Peyper
Sunday was quite an intersting day….well I’d like to refer to it as interesting – it makes me feel a little less stupid for ending up in the ditch. Let me explain: we went for a drive through the Wicklow Mountains with the aim of taking Jessie running and taking a few photos. Well seems like every hiker got out early as well so we couldn’t find a place to park on the winding narrow mountain roads as all the shoulders along the way had been parked in.
After turning around and heading back the way we came, I saw a place that looked good to stop at – just off the road. But in my indecision I drove further past it than what I thought I had. So when reversing to park, I turned “into the shoulder” sooner than I should’ve and ending up with the back wheels in a ditch…well I call it a ditch, but in fact it was closer to a river bank! Driving a 4X4 I didn’t think it would be problem until I noticed that one of the front wheels was on very slippery wet icy grass and the other completely lifted from the ground, and the back of the car sinking deeper into the river bank….
To make a long story short, we collected some rocks and logs to get in under the wheels (amongst the echoes of “you MUST call the AA”). Some very friendly couples stopped to help – who then waved down some other helpful folk in a BMW X5 with some very impressive “pulling power”. Thanks to my trusty rope, the X5 and some very helpful strangers we managed to get out of a very “tight spot” without the help of the AA. Unfortunately by this stage Barbara had some very cold toes as she didn’t believe me that we were “stuck in a river” before she climbed out of the car and ending up shin-deep in “2cms of water”.
Well we lived to tell the tale and manged to get Jessie out for a run afterall. The picture is of Barbara, her wet foot and Jessie enjoying a walk/run in the snow!
I’d just like to say thank you again to everybody who stopped and helped. Sometime strangers really are just friends whom we do not know! There is hope for humanity – we just need to believe, love and do unto others as we’d have done unto ourselves. Offer a helping hand where ever you can. You just don’t know when you might need a helping hand extended in your direction!

The Lost and the Lonely
Dec 9th, 2009 by Anthony Peyper
We need to take a minute and be grateful! Be grateful for the ones we love and who love us in return – inspite of the the people we are. Be grateful that we have friends and/or family we can be with as Christmas approaches…
Yesterday i was approached by this man on the street – looking for some money, a simple 2 euro put a smile on his face and I could see how genuinely grateful he was … and it put a burden on my heart for everybody out there who doesn’t have anybody to share today with…
So I dedicate this picture picture to all those living on the sreets, who don’t have a warm bed tonight, who don’t have a loved one to wake up next to in the mornng, to those who won’t only spend Christmas alone, but probably spend it hungry and cold!
May they be blessed!

Lorraine & Cathal Engagement Shoot
Oct 31st, 2009 by Anthony Peyper

Today we had the honour of doing a pre wedding engagement shoot for a lovely couple, Lorraine and Cathal. It really was an absolute pleasure working with them today and can’t wait to photograph them on their wedding day in 2010.
Congratulations – you make a wonderful couple! We wish you all of the best in preparing for the BIG DAY! See you soon!

Wallis Bird
Oct 20th, 2009 by Anthony Peyper
Weekend gone by was the HWCH music festival in Dublin. This where I “accidentally” got to photograph this wonderful musician and her band. I say accidentally because she wasn’t part of the HWCH music festival, but was playing in a venue attached to the venue where I had planned on being. At first security didn’t want me going into the pit to take photos, but i was convinced I was meant to be there, but eventually he let me in. Amazing what can happen when you look like you’re meant to be some where. I was trying to blag my way in there – I really thought I was meant to be there. Only half way through the gig I realised it was a full length gig and there were no other photographers, beside my mate Aled who made the same mistake as me. I think we both made the same mistake because we had both photographed other bands in this venue, but had never been to the venue where we actually had planned on going. Turned out being a great show! Glad I made the mistake … OOPS!
More pics from HWCH coming soon!
