Sunday morning up bright and early to take Jessie for a walk. Fortunately I packed my camera with the idea of doing a few lens and camera setting tests. After running up and down the beach with endless energy (Jessie not Barbara and I), we hear Jessie barking behind some rocks. So we run closer to see what the commotion is all about. I see something in the water and run closer only to realise it’s a baby seal trapped in a small rock pool. Possibly stranded after high tide. Jessie must have tought it wanted to play because her tail was wagging madly and she was jumping about in pure excitment.
To make a long story short I grabbed my camera as we slowly urged the seal closer to the ocean. It must have been trapped for a good while because the fur on it’s back was bone dry – looking like a mohekan. The tide was coming in again, but the little thing was exhausted from pulling itself over the rocks with it’s nubbly flippers. A few times I got too close with and it was sure to show me that it was a feisty little thing.
Eventually it was back in the water and away… Jessie wanted to follow it in. We had a hard time getting Jessie to leave with us
Just made me realise again how cruel us humans can be. Seal clubbing – what a terrible act. How could anybody club a baby like this to death?

I am in love with this pictures and to see that Jessie has a new BFF!! The sweetest baby seal ever!
You made a good point here Anthony, how human being can be so cruel. It is shocking and unbelievable that people can do something like that.
On the contrary you guys did something great to help the little seal to go back to water. I am happy there are still people like you around.
Thanks for sharing this pictures with us!

Hope she is safe in the ocean now and has found her mum.
It was a special moment, very national geographic!

Just another reason why I love the Peyper family – Barbara, Jessie, Anthony – you definitely saved this little baby’s life. Great job! It’s amazing to have the NG moments in our life
Nice website by the way, love the minimalism!!!
Such a cute little one
!!! But by the clothes which Barbara was wearing it looks like its freezing winter in Ireland
